BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

息子の福谷尚之は1996年（平成8年）1月16日に出生し、ICU在学中の2019年（令和元年）10月30日に永眠しました。父親の仕事の関係で、未就学時からほぼ小学生の時代を海外で暮らし（ニューヨーク郊外のママロネックとシンガポール）、後年ICUで学ぶ素地を涵養しました。 純粋無垢で明るい性格は、何事にもオープンな海外生活にうまく溶け込み、生活をエンジョイした幼少年時代を過ごしました。帰国後にはちょうど思春期を迎え、様々な“彼我”のギャップに悩んだ時期もありましたが、子供のころから得意であった“モノづくり”という自分の進む道を見つけ出し、いったんは慶應義塾大学理工学部に入学しました。 実験生活に明け暮れる中で、ICUに進学した旧友に誘われてキャンパスを訪れ、多くの方々と触れ合ううちに、本人なりの開放感を感じたのでしょう、再受験してICUの一員となることができました。 学業に励む傍ら、ソフトボール、グリークラブ、バスケットボール、空手など多くサークルの皆様とご一緒する機会を得て、学生生活を送っていた矢先の旅立ちでした。「ID212002」が卒業生名簿に加われなかったことは、本当に残念でなりません。 ICUファミリーの皆様とは短いお付き合いでしたが、このような形でICUとのつながりを持たせていただこうと考えました。学び舎の今後のますますのご隆盛と、ご関係者皆様のご発展を、永遠の眠りについた尚之とともに心よりお祈りしております。 福谷尚之両親 Naoyuki Fukutani was born on January 16, 1996, and passed away on October 30, 2019 while in ICU. Due to his father's work, he lived abroad throughout much of his childhood (Mamaroneck on the outskirts of New York and Singapore), cultivating the foundation to study at ICU later in life. His pure, innocent and bright personality blended well with open-minded overseas life and enjoyed his childhood years. When returned to Japan, he was struggling with cultural gaps between the East and the West, but later on, he eventually found his way. Longed for “manufacturing”, he first entered Keio University's Faculty of Science and Technology and spent his days with various kinds of experiments. But one day, invited by an old friend, he visited ICU campus. Enchanted by the wonderful environment surrounded by greenery and the people he met, he decided to transfer to ICU by taking the entrance examination again. After successfully enrolled ICU and while studying hard, he was involved in many club activities, including softball, glee clubs, basketball, and karate. His sudden departure was truly a pity - ID212002 would never be on the graduate list. However, though his campus life was rather short, he fulfilled his life with the ICU family. As a token of his affection to ICU, we want to establish a connection between our son and his alma mater in this way. Together with Naoyuki rest in eternal peace, we sincerely wish for the ever-growing prosperity of ICU and the happiness of the people involved. Parents of Naoyuki Fukutani |
