508 Dr. Shigeru Miyagawa

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Shigeru Miyagawa was born in Hiratsuka, Japan, in 1952. As a youth, he spent ten years (1962-1972) in the U.S. He enrolled at ICU in 1972 and graduated with a B.A. in linguistics. He received his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Arizona in 1980. After teaching at the Ohio State University, 1980-1991, he was appointed as Professor of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1991; he also received the Kochi-Manjiro Professorship in Japanese studies starting in 1995. He was awarded the ICU 60th Anniversary Professorship, 2012 – 2014.
