1. オリゴ糖およびスフィンゴ糖脂質の化学合成
動物細胞表面上に存在する糖脂質や糖タンパク質の糖鎖が担う生体機能に関する研究は「糖鎖科学(Glycoscience)」という学際的な研究となっているが,私 は有機化学の立場から以下のような研究を行っている.。
グロボ系糖脂質を構成するオリゴ糖鎖(胚発生段階特異抗原SSEA-3, Forssman抗原 ParaForssman抗原糖脂質の構成オリゴ糖)の化学合成. 細胞接着やガン特異抗原として知られるLewis X, -Y(Lex, Ley)抗 原糖鎖の新しい合成法の開発.
b. 化学変換法によるスフィン ゴ糖脂質の合成.
比較的容易に単離可能な糖脂質を原料として,化学変換および糖鎖延長反応によりまだ生体機能が完全に解 明されていないスフィンゴ糖脂質を合成する. グロボシド(ヒト血液中の主要糖脂質)からはSSEA-3抗原やForssman抗原糖脂質を, また, ヘマ トシド(ウマ血液中の主要糖脂質)からは種々のラクト系列糖脂質を化学合成する.
