International Training Workshop for Psychotherapy (ITWP)

Basics of Psychodynamic Understanding

In Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Sigmund Freud ― An Invitation to graduate students, young scholars in the field of Psychotherapy

Registration Form (PDF file) The deadline for registration is February 24th.

The emergence of psychotherapy as a prism into the workings of the human mind is among the greatest achievements of the 20th century. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of this approach to both understanding and healing the emotional conflicts that do battle in the minds of so many people struggling to find balance in an unbalanced world. The world we live in today calls to mind another era ? the collapse of the Roman Empire. We are surrounded by intractable conflicts from the so-called “war on terror,” to civil strife in virtually every corner of the world, to natural disasters that destroy villages and wreak havoc on human lives, to the erosion of social values and the collapse of family order that can also take a devastating emotional toll.

These stresses know no national or cultural boundaries. It is a global age not only for communication and technology, but also for the trauma of modern life in uncertain times. As scientists and psychotherapists, we need to be equipped to extend our expertise into the global scheme of things. We are obliged to seek ways of creating safe spaces in human minds around the world, especially in our modern highly technological and rapidly changing world. Doing so requires developing sensitivity to the cultural dimensions of psychotherapy.

Sigmund Freud bequeathed to us a marvelous tool for healing troubled souls. Psychotherapy offers many more possibilities for resolving the turmoil in modern human life. Members of the younger generation are more likely to be able to transcend the constraints of the present age. This workshop is an opportunity for you to join with others who share your concern about how to translate the ways and means of psychotherapy to suit the needs of a globalized world in a state of flux and turmoil. Please join us for explorations into how to refine new approaches in psychotherapy that will allow us to carry the torch we have received from Sigmund Freud into the new century and beyond.
