「ICUメサイア演奏会」は、2001年に大学献学50周年を記念する行事として、卒業生を中心にヘンデルの「メサイア」演奏して以来回を重ね、今年は第5回目の演奏会が献学60周年を記念して開催されました。指揮者には、第1回演奏会から継続して同窓生の長谷川朝雄氏（1期生）を、独唱者にも、同窓生でプロの声楽家として宗教音楽やオペラに幅広く活躍しているアルトの田辺いづみ氏（26期生）を迎え、同窓生を中心に、教職員、さらに卒業生の家族や友人など学外の有志の参加も含め、90人もの大合唱団が結成されました。満席に近い聴衆は音楽性の高い演奏を十二分に楽しむひとときを過ごしました。

The “ICU Messiah Concert” began in 2001 as an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of ICU. A group of mostly alums performed Handel’s “Messiah”. Additional performances have been held since then. This fifth concert was held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of ICU. The conductor was alumnus Asao Hasegawa (CLA1), who has served as a conductor since the first concert, and the soloist was alumna Izumi Tanabe (CLA26), a professional singer (alto) who has performed a wide range of sacred music and operas. A large choir of 90 people was formed, mostly consisting of alumni but also educational and general staff as well as those not directly affiliated with the university, such as family and friends of alumni. The listeners, who nearly packed the venue, spent time enjoying the musically high caliber performance to the utmost.
