Inter-Religious Relations
in Southeast Asia:
Experiences from Indonesia,
Singapore and Malaysia

One of the five focuses of the Academic Program of the 60th Anniversary Project is "Dialogue between Cultures and Religions." As part of this program, we will invite Dr. Sofjan from Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS) in Yogyakarta and hold the following lecture. Everyone is welcome. (No reservation necessary. Lecture in English.)

■Abstract
In principle, democracy equalizes the playing fields for all citizens of the state, which should ideally be religiously neutral in the face of frictions and conflicts among faith-based groups in society. This talk will delve into the question of how democracy has had mixed results in confronting the problem of inter-religious relations in Southeast Asia. The Speaker will focus his examples and experiences from Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia by comparatively examining their different historical legacies, political systems, and current socio-cultural practices.
