最大の脅威は戦争ではない。
子どもが病気になっても
病院が遠すぎて連れて行けないという脅威、
病院にたどり着けたとしても、
医療が足りず助からないという脅威だ。
The greatest threat wasn’t war, as such. It was not being able to take
a child to hospital because the hospital was too far. Then once you get
there, there’s not enough medication.
紛争の大きな要因は深刻な貧困と、救命医療の保証であり、
それが原因でますます貧困が増えるという悪循環に陥っている。
The sheer extent of the poverty and the lack of access to life-or-death level
health care is what was thought to be driving the conflicts, and this would
in turn lead to increased poverty in a vicious circle.
ODAは慈善ではなく、
あくまでも共同努力でなければならない。
外からの支援はもちろん大切だが、被援助国が抱える問題は、
援助を受ける国が自ら解決しなければならない。
ODA should be a collaborative effort
rather than a charitable one.
Outside aid is important, but aid-receiving countries must
solve the issues they face themselves.
世界にはまだ最前線に出てきていない
優秀な女性がたくさんいる。
ぜひともそういう人に活躍してほしい。
女性や家族のニーズに合わせた調整が必要だ。社会は女性に機会を与え、
働き続けられる場を提供していくことが求められる。
There are a great number of able, skilled women in the world who are not on the
forefront right now, and it would help if they were.
There has to be an adjustment to the kind of needs women and families have. More women should not only
be brought in, but kept in, even if they do have to stay at home at some points.

お互いのことを理解していないために、
経済的な対立が宗教的な対立と結びついてしまうのかもしれない。
It is possible that the lack of understanding of one another is what
leads to the conflation of economic conflict with religious conflict.
地域社会同士の平等だけでなく、それぞれの地域社会に根ざす
アイデンティティの平等も保証する必要がある。
We must work to ensure one level of equity both
between communities, and between the identities within the community.
貧困と不平等、不公平の問題を解決し、
人間の良い面である愛と思いやりと
理解を示すことができれば、
新しい社会が実現できる。
宗教があくまで個人的なものであれば、一緒に暮らすのに差し支えはない。
貧困、不平等、不公平の方がはるかに深刻で、平和を打ち壊す脅威である。
If we can take care of poverty, inequity,
and inequality, and really show the very
good human characteristics of love,
compassion and understanding, I believe
we will have a new world.
Religion is a private way of you worshiping your God and me worshipping my god in the way we
each understand it, and not a hindrance to us living together. The issues of poverty, inequality
and inequity are much greater threats to peace.
